Call for contributions to .B.E.T.C.H. Rag 3

Dear Supporters, Friends, Siblings, and Co Conspirators,

Hello, Beautiful Educated Thunder Cunts from Hell are coming out with our third issue of the .B.E.T.C.H. Rag zine. This time around our theme is our mothers, ourselves: examining our relationships with our mothers. We want to hear both the good and the bad, the ups and downs, the layers and dimensions of your relationship or lack of a relationship with your mother.

Who acted as your mother? Was she your biological mother? A grandmother, a sister or an aunt? The woman down the street? Who was she then and who is she now? How has your relationship changed and what have you realized about her now that you're older? We want to explore these relationships in the context of patriarchy, in the context of love and in the context of understand and relating to women as whole beings, both good and bad.

We're looking forward to you thoughts, artwork, poetry, interviews and essays. Thanks, as always, for sharing with us and helping us to make bad ass, thought provoking zines. The deadline for submissions is Friday November 11th.

B.E.T.C.H. Broadcast

It's that time of year when Hell opens up in Austin and every body gets into the water or outta the town. We've all been running around visiting friends and family (right now Arwyn is in rainy Minneapolis) and when we're not running around we're at Kinko's or Treasure City Thrift (who let's us use their copier) printing,
editing and compiling the zine.   It's been a lot of work and we'd really like to thank everyone who
submitted something to this issue, it means a lot to have you share your thoughts and feelings and lives with us.

***

Slut Walk was fantastic! Never has fighting rape culture been so stylish. This event, as well as Take Back the Night!- which happened in April- remind us how sad, intense and utterly empowering it is when survivors share their stories of sexual assault. Whether we're at a protest, or at the side of a friend who is dealing with assault this work is important and real. Thanks to the people who put on things like this and to everyone fighting rape culture. If you have pictures from Slut Walk we'd love to put them on our blog!

***

JUNE 30th is our zine release party! Come celebrate the release of B.E.T.C.H.'s second zine! This issue is about navigating the space of our lives and it's a Masquerade, dahling. Get all gussied up to read the zine, listen to music, and hang out at our new favorite bar- Bernadette's!

Featuring:
Eliens
Planets
Kay Leotard
the smouldering duo Djs of Alien She

and DJ Lovecat spinnin' the late night tunes at the Crooked Castle Afterparty!

Bernadette's is on 2039 Airport Blvd just north of MLK blvd. on the
East side of the street. It starts at 7pm, be there!!!

***

After June 30th look for B.E.T.C.H. Rag 2 at Domey Books, Monkey Wrench Books, End of an Ear and other fabulous book and record stores.

***

If you would like to be move involved with us, either by helping out at events, hosting a discussion or eventually joining the collective please contact us! email us back or talk to us in person when you see
us.
ALSO, if you have a project or event you'd like our help with we'd love to help you. We're here to support ladies doing bad ass shit, and that means you!

BETCH Broadcast

*If you'd like to get all of these all the time PLUS regular event updates you can sign up for our email list by emailing betch at gmail.com*

Hello Beautiful People!

The Anarchist Bookfair was amazing! We finally go to share space with our sister chapter in HTX and were able to donate the bulk of our sales to the bookfair, hopefully helping them in their momentum to make this an annual event.

For those of you that weren't able to make it out to "Valencia" the Michelle Tea Film Benefit at Chaindrive last Tuesday, it was quite the gala as well. .B.E.T.C.H. was pleased as pie to be there and was able to donate some scratch to the cause. They made over their projected profit and hopefully the segment, coming out (get it?!) in August, has a good footing to put together something amazing. We have no doubts.

Don't forget to give us your zine submissions DUE MAY 22ND (!!!!!). Write, draw, collage, whatever and email, hand over or snail mail 'em in to us. This time we're exploring space. Not outer space, but the space we already occupy and move through everyday. How we are perceived in this space and how we learn to live in it. At home, at work, walking down the street, at parties, at shows, everywhere we are. We want to hear your experiences navigating the space of your life. Being fat, being queer, working in the service industry, as
ladies, as trans people, as people of color, as people working through how we are regarded and treated, working through how we view ourselves. ALL submissions are going to be available online. We are working on getting the first issue online and will let you know where you can view it as soon as we know more details.

.B.E.T.C.H. Rag #1 is currently available at End of an Ear, Domy Books and at any events that we rep. We are in the works with Monkey Wrench Books, other record stores in ATX and Bound Together Books in San Francisco. Keep your eyes peeled for the Rag!

What's the next event we're reppin'? We'll be at the May 1st March for Immigrant's Rights. As you may or may not know, there have been some fucked up laws being signed off on recently (*coughcough*Arizona*cough*) so it's important to show up AT 4PM AT THE CAPITOL TO MARCH TO CITY HALL to show them that we ain't here to mess with no fools. .B.E.T.C.H.s fight back!

We are also holding our open craft night on Monday at 7pm! Let us know if you're interested and we can give you directions! Come stitch n bitch with us.

We will also be representing at the Swallow Art Show opening at Club DeVille Tuesday May 3rd starting at 8pm.

The library is about to close this shit! See you soon <3
